Sites can be requested and used to establish a web presence under the mcneese.edu domain. To request a site,  please contact the Office of Marketing and Licensing at marketing@mcneese.edu or 337-562-4150.

Please note that this service does not meet FERPA requirements and is not approved to host Confidential data. Additionally, this service is not approved for course-related activities. Faculty and students are encouraged to utilize Moodle for fulfilling their classroom needs.

Service Description

A recent version of the WordPress software is available for intended users. For this service, recent is defined as six months. The login process and administration are encrypted.

  • Blog platform

    A WordPress multisite network that supports multiple websites for multiple users, published to https://sites.mcneese.edu. This collection of sites share the same WordPress installation and can also share plugins and themes. Individual sites have separate directories for media uploads and separate tables in the database within the shared installation.

  • Themes

    A pre-determined set of themes for users to select. This service does not provide custom themes. However, themes can be submitted for approval.

  • Storage

    Each site has a maximum of 500 MB (megabytes) for publishing documents (.pdf, .xls, .ppt, etc.) and multimedia (.png, .jpg, .mov, .wav, etc.). OneDrive should be used as a storage location for large documents and media.

  • Statistics

    Site managers will be granted non-administrative access to Google Analytics. Pre-defined site-specific views within Google Analytics will be created for sites under the mcneese.edu domain. New Google Analytics accounts will be created for sites that are not under the mcneese.edu domain. 

  • Plugins & Widgets

    A pre-determined set of plugins and widgets. This service does not allow users to install plugins or widgets. However, plugins and widgets can be submitted for approval.

Supported Computing Environment

Visitors are able to view sites on McNeese Sites using any device running a supported Web browser.

The WordPress software will be upgraded on a regular basis following these criteria:

  • A stable production upgrade version of WordPress has been released for at least two months. Exceptions will be made for security upgrades.
  • The stable production upgrade version of WordPress is compatible with all required plug-ins.

Intended Users

McNeese Sites is available to official organizational units and others to be determined by the Office of Marketing and Licensing in compliance with the Electronic Communications Policy. This service does not meet FERPA requirements and is not approved to host Confidential data. Additionally, this service is not approved for course-related activities. Faculty and students are encouraged to utilize Moodle for fulfilling their classroom needs.

Technical Support

Technical support is available during normal business hours, 7:45 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. to handle routine requests. Routine requests are typically addressed within one business day.

All requests for technical support will be logged using the UCS project management ticketing system at jira.mcneese.edu.

Maintenance

Information Technology will notify users about maintenance or service disruptions using the Campus Mailing List. Services may not be available during the maintenance periods.

Dependencies

McNeese Sites is dependent on UCS virtual services as well as IT campus network and related systems. The availability of those services will have a direct impact on the availability of McNeese Sites.

User Responsibilities

All users agree to be aware of and adhere to the university’s Acceptable Use of Information Technology Resources Policy.

McNeese Sites users agree to:

  • Not post or store any Confidential data in McNeese Sites.
  • Provide critical information to UCS in a timely manner when requested for purposes of resolving issues.
  • Use McNeese Sites in a manner consistent with McNeese’s values and mission, as well as comply with local, state and federal laws and university policies.

Data Persistence

Sites will be subject to deletion after one year of inactivity (no updates to content).
